Integrative Wellness Works was inspired by the idea that its name does exactly what it says – integrative wellness does work. This is a model of health which resides on the following principles:
Health is unique to each person.
Optimal wellness is something that changes as you change over the course of your life. Each body is unique and has varying needs. Trusting yourself, discerning what works for you in any given moment, and applying basic guidelines about being well are all what keep you on a path of health.
Health happens when you take care of yourself
Sounds obvious, doesn't it? Yet, how often do you function on less sleep than you need, substitute sugary snacks or coffee instead of healthy food, watch TV instead of going for a walk, or forget to drink water? The basics - sleeping, eating whole foods, exercise, and drinking water - are the foundation for health. With these in place, it becomes much easier to implement other aspects of wellness such as healthy communication, positive perspectives, and effectively being of service to others.
Health is based on personal potential and fulfillment.
We have been conditioned to think that we should avoid illness, fight illness, and/or mask the symptoms of illness. Our bodies are both delicate and strong, sending us clear signals when something is out of balance. It is important to pay attention and listen. We can now think about being well because we want to be well, to contribute, be fulfilled, and explore our potential rather than focusing on “fighting” an illness.
Health and sustainability are connected.
The choices you make on a daily basis affect your health and the health of the planet. One simple example of this is to purchase organic fruits and veggies at the farmer’s market or your local grocery store - getting whole foods for your health while supporting local economy and sustainable farming practices. You are then playing a part in future generations being able to enjoy the bounty and beauty of this planet.
You matter. You make a difference.
It’s true. You do. Whether you realize it or not, you are already making a difference in the world through all you are connected to – friends, family, coworkers, the grocery store clerk that you took the time to smile at. Now, consider how you would like to contribute. When you take care of yourself, you are more able to give and receive in ways that you’ve always desired. That potential is always alive in you.
It’s time to let your life bloom.
