Breathe
It really is that simple. Whether in difficult conversations, caught in a whirlwind of busyness, or in a challenging relationship, breathing will help alleviate stress by creating calmness and clarity. Give yourself permission to pause and take a deep breath. Stay centered instead of overwhelmed.
Drink Water
Another simple technique. Lack of water induces headaches, mental confusion, and misguided signals from your body convincing you of hunger or illness when all you may need is a glass of pure water. Water is essential to our survival and optimum health, clearing out stored toxins and giving life to the cells of your body.
Eat Whole Foods
If it grows on a bush, in the ground, or on a tree, it is a whole food. Packages of processed or refined foods are not whole foods. Refined food is harder for our bodies to break down and assimilate the nutrients. Organic whole foods are higher in nutritional value and support our bodies in maintaining health. Fill your day with whole foods. Your body will thank you.
Move
Your body is powerful and amazing! It is constantly giving you feedback. With even just the slightest shift in movement - shoulder roll back, head and eyes looking up, feet solidly planted on the ground - you can change your thoughts, feelings, and actions. Listen to its wisdom and you will always be guided to a state of health.
Sleep
Ever had to function on less than enough sleep? Pretty challenging, huh? Sleep is nourishing. It influences our ability to think clearly, act effectively, and relate compassionately. For more on the important role of sleep and health, visit the National Sleep Foundation.
Be kind
It is time to apply this golden rule to yourself. There can sometimes be a tyrant living inside our own heads, telling us what we should have done differently, and often times not being so nice about it. You deserve the same amount of kindness as a child, a pet, a stranger. Love yourself, it is good for your health.
Appreciation
It can be easy to focus on what's not working and what you don't like in your life. How about taking a look at what you are grateful for? It could be a coworker that smiled at you, a friend offering to buy you lunch, an interesting website, or the way the sun feels on your face. It is worth a few moments of your day to appreciate your life. You may start feeling so good that you spend more of your time in appreciation.
